Community Conversation comes to Eastbourne
This Tuesday, the Police & Crime Commissioner, Chief Constable, and East Sussex Divisional Commander hosted the secondCommunity Conversationevent, held at the Winter Garden in Eastbourne.The purpose of these events is to set the context for policing in Sussex and, most importantly, provide an opportunity for residents to pose questions about topical issues directly to their police chiefs.
A new police unit has been set up in Surrey and Sussex to help combat on-line crimeSurrey and Sussex Police are operating a joint Cybercrime Unit (CCU), which started in November this year and is based at Haywards Heath Police Station.The unit, partly funded through an increase in the police precept in 2014/15, secured by the Sussex Police and Crime Commissioner, Katy Bourne, has been brought together across both forces and is building on findings from a pilot study in Brighton & Hove CID to help shape new processes and initiatives.
PCC signs HIV Stigma Statement
Sussex Police & Crime Commissioner, Katy Bourne has pledged her support in the fight against the discrimination of people living with HIV.Mrs Bourne, who visited the Terrence Higgins Trust in Brighton on Friday (28 Nov) and joined others in making a stand against HIV stigma, said: “Today (1 Dec) is World AIDS day. Despite huge progress in care and treatment for people living with HIV, it is still a stigmatised illness, and discrimination and prejudice remain issues of concern to many people living with HIV.”
Recruitment has now opened for 14-25 year olds from Sussex who have an interest in joining the Sussex Youth Commission (SYC) in 2015-16.Building on the success of the 2014 pilot project, the PCC in partnership with the SHM Foundation, wants to give up to 30 young people from across the county an opportunity to have a voice on policing and crime.
