This week’s Performance and Accountability Meeting (PAM) will be held on Friday 22 July.

Sussex Police & Crime Commissioner Katy Bourne will express her concern regarding the increase in individuals killed or seriously injured (KSIs) on Sussex roads. She will ask Chief Constable Jo Shiner what may explain the increase, what are the Force doing to reduce KSIs on the county’s roads and what more can be done to reduce the number of collisions.

Mrs Bourne will also raise questions about the Sussex Safer Roads Partnership (SSRP) including what their current priorities are, how they support the work of the police and what is planned by the SSRP to tackle the ‘fatal five’ - excessive speed; drink-and-drug-driving; using mobile phones whilst driving; not wearing a seatbelt, and careless or dangerous driving.

Scrutinizing how the Force promote and enforce road safety, the PCC will ask the Chief Constable various questions about Operation Crackdown – a joint initiative run by Sussex Police and the SSRP which provides members of the public with the opportunity to report specific instances of anti-social driving and abandoned vehicles in Sussex. She will also raise the topic of cyclists and recent changes to the highway code.

Following a 21% reduction in solved burglaries over 2021/22 (compared to 20/21), Mrs Bourne will ask the Chief Constable how the Force are improving solved rates, what the challenges are and if she is satisfied with the current levels of performance.
